چکیده

We present a methodology for automatically constructing structural hyperlinks for navigation and retrieval in large corpora. A structural hyperlink connects components of a document that have specified structural properties with word-based content similarity. Our approach enables queries that may be posed in terms of keywords, as well as structural segments such as definitions, figures, etc.

Mechanisms of magnetic orientation in birds.

Behavior and electrophysiological studies have demonstrated a sensitivity to characteristics of the Geomagnetic field that can be used for navigation, both for direction finding (compass) and position finding (map). The avian magnetic compass receptor appears to be a light-dependent, wavelength-sensitive system that functions as a polarity compass (i.e., it distinguishes poleward from equatorwa...

Compass-M1 Broadcast Codes and Their Application to Acquisition and Tracking

With the launch of the Compass-M1 satellite on 14 April 2007, China is set to become the latest entrant into global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). The satellite, sometimes referred to as Compass-2 or Beidou-2, is the first of the Compass navigation satellite system (CNSS) that will provide global satellite navigation coverage. While China has launched several other navigation satellites, ...

The sun compass revisited

Many animals, and birds in particular, are thought to use directional information from the sun in the form of a time-compensated sun compass, with predictably deviated orientation under clock shift being regarded as the litmus test of this. We suggest that this paradigm obscures a number of other ways in which solar-derived information could be important in animal orientation. We distinguish be...

Advances in the neural bases of orientation and navigation.

The ability to locomote in one direction (oriented movement), and the ability to navigate toward a distant goal are related behaviors that are phylogenetically widespread. Orientation behaviors include finding the source of an odor or acoustic signal, using a sun-compass for guidance, and moving relative to fluid-dynamic cues. Such abilities might require little more than directionally selectiv...

DNA Compass: a secure, client-side site for navigating personal genetic information

Motivation Millions of individuals have access to raw genomic data using direct-to-consumer companies. The advent of large-scale sequencing projects, such as the Precision Medicine Initiative, will further increase the number of individuals with access to their own genomic information. However, querying genomic data requires a computer terminal and computational skill to analyze the data-an imp...
